In this video:
Lily and Tamryn demonstrate how to use your legs and your feet (not your arms) to slow your dog down.
Slowing your dog
To avoid the yo-yo (you and your dog pulling on each other). Your feet and legs – your lower body – is often much more powerful than your upper body, particularly for females.
When your dog is going to fast and you want to slow them or stop them:
• Hold the leash steady in your hands
• Begin taking smaller slower steps
• Anchor your feet to the ground as you bend into your knees
• Continue slowing your steps, with feet firmly planting into the ground
• Bring your dog to a slower speed or a stop
→ Think of water skiing
→ Think of an anchor creating friction on the lake bottom
